Doorways is an exploration of the ways we can enter into more presence, more aliveness, and more flourishing. It is a space for tracing how ideas, experiences, people — really any material in front of us — can offer us deeper contact with the moment in front of us, with each other, and ultimately with ourselves.

Often, explorations will be paired with original poetry.

The name “Doorways” was inspired by a conversation with a dear early reader of my poems. She shared that she experienced one poem as a door she could walk through. When I asked her where the doorway led, she answered easily: “to self-compassion, and ultimately back to myself.”

Through the poem, she’d recognized a quiet judgment she had been carrying toward herself, and with it, a constant background nagging to change, improve, or become someone else.

In her words:

“You made me giggle at myself, love myself, remember myself, appreciate myself — and that was more healing than changing myself.”

I hope these words offer you a threshold.

May the next right doorway appear.

About the Author

Hi, I’m Astrid Garbassi. I am a coach, facilitator, writer, and mom.

Through my practice, Expanded Capacity, I help people and organizations clarify and actualize their highest visions for themselves. Often, this work involves navigating through many doorways — from old beliefs and behaviors to new ones.

Before becoming a coach and facilitator, I founded and ran a venture-backed women’s health company called Agni. My experience as an operator in a high stakes, high-paced environment informs the work I do.

I also offer talks and workshops on topics such as deep listening, asking powerful questions, poetic attunement, and discovering or deepening values.

If you’d like to work together in any capacity, I invite you to reach out to me at atrid@expanded-capacity.com.
